Ray Noftall was found not guilty this morning of charges of armed robbery, possessing a weapon dangerous to the public, pointing a firearm, using a firearm in the commission of an offence and uttering threats.

Justice Donald Burrage said witnesses in the case were not credible and unreliable.

He told Noftall he was free to go. Noftall smiled and waved to reporters as he left the courtroom at Newfoundland Supreme Court in St. John’s.

The charges arose from an incident that was said to have happened March 12, 2012, at a home in Cowan Heights.

Reality is. Mr Noftall stood before a highly educated and well respected Justice Donald Burrage, who did not write the mandatory guidlines for conviction. Evidence he observed at Noftall's trial must have been insufficient for him to convict. To convict with absence of proof would place him in a position of constant doubt within his own mind, and make for a hard pillow at night. If everyone who walked through our justice system were convicted , I would feel that there is a problem somewhere in the woodpile. The system works as long as we keep the 'red necks' out of the court system (and we have) we will keep doing just fine. Have you ever read the statistics on wronfull conviction? It would blow you away. Yes , right here in Newfoundland.

Another case of tunnel vision by RNC? I thought we'd seen the last of that with the now PROMOTED Ab Singleton and the Parsons fiasco. Seems old habits never die.

It is easy to pick on the downtrodden and weak! Every once and awhile the lower echelons of society - easy targets for the self-righteous and pious - beat the rap! Just because you are an easy target, doesn't mean you are guilty!!

A man with his criminal history should be found not guilty. It's people like you and me that make one small mistake or wrong move, that should be a guest of the Queen. What an unjust society we live in. Waving to reporters on the way out....a form of snubbing his nose at our justice system. Meantime, he's right. This is a total joke. All we've done here is inconvenienced Mr. Noftall.
