The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary suspended the ground search for missing man Josh Miller, 20, today.

The police force said it is still actively investigating the disappearance, but is discontinuing the ground search unless there is new information.

The RNC Patrol Services, Criminal Investigation Division, Mounted Unit, K9 Unit, Rovers Ground Search and Rescue and a helicopter coordinated through Fire and Emergency Services had been involved in the search.

Miller was reported missing Sunday, but was last seen by friends on George Street early Friday morning.

After an altercation in which he was reportedly kicked in the head by an assailant outside the Sundance bar, according to friends, Miller was put in a cab by himself.

A friend of Miller’s who was with him that night lives in the Stavanger Drive/Blue Puttees area but said his doors were locked if Miller headed to his place.

Police have asked residents of the area to check their backyards and sheds for any signs of him.

Miller is described as being 6-1 and 180-185 pounds. He has short, sandy-coloured hair and blue eyes.

At the time of his disappearance he was wearing jeans and a black T-shirt, according to police.

Friends describe him as a hard worker who had two jobs and was attending Memorial University, hoping to get into the RNC.

Friends and family have been out every night searching for clues.

For anyone who has offered to assist in the search for Josh Miller, there is another citizen search organized for Saturday. A group is meeting at Second Cup on Stavanger Drive @ 12 pm Saturday.

Thanks for everyone who met at RONA today to help search, especially the Chris who had to leave to drive around the bay afterward. Really appreciated.

would it be possible to make public - if it's known to the police - exactly where this person was dropped off by the cab, and, if he did run off without paying , in which direction? i mean, if we're trying to locate him - shouldn't all this info. be out there to help with the search?

Honestly they should be looking further than the "Drop Off Point". He apparently hopped the cab and when you hop a cab you run as fast as you can without stopping so to be realistic I would check the woods over by maries on stavanger. Chances are he didnt stop and rest where he jumped the cab by blue putee. Ill be checking out the snows lane area tomorrow.

I think someone should put the word out at Memorial University. Being a school with several students who hang out at the bars and clubs downtown, could potentially know something to aid in the situation. Being a student there, I have yet not seen anything posted around!!

I hope that he is found soon, preferably safe but it's not looking great. I'm sure the taxi driver has been questioned over and over. The reality is that he may be anywhere, there is exactly one person who claimed to have seen him last...

I live in this area in question. I have not seen searches taking place in the green space area of Blue Putee and Soldier Cres and in the woods and rivers surrounding Clovelly golf course. Also the woods continue on into the riding stables in Outer Cove. The search seems to be only concentrated on Stavanger drive. I've personally looked at this are of Blue Puttee and Soldier Cres as best I could considering I have two young children with me. Please don't forget safety vests and flashlights for you own safety!

Someone should Tweet and post on Facebook and spread the word of the meeting at RONA at 5 and any other future search parties. Get the work out there to everyone you can.

Has the RNC confirmed with any taxi company that there was a drop off in that area... I understand that cabbies do a lot of driving... but if I had a guy who was kicked in the head after a fight he might stick in my head long enough to remember him if I saw a picture...

There is a group of people meeting in the RONA parking lot on Torbay Road this evening (Thursday), leaving there at 5 pm to continue with the search if anyone wants to join.

I too wish there was something I can do. My heart goes out to Josh's family and friends. Is there a facebook page or anything that I can offer my time?

I agree with the other posters. There are plenty of people who would join a private search if someone could post details of where and when people could meet. We cannot just do nothing!

Very disappointing that they suspended the search, he's out there somewhere and should continue to search till found. I pity the person or children who eventually stumble across him. It's one thing to find him durning an organized search and quite another to find something when you least expect to.

Can we get an update on what areas have been searched, what areas still need to be searched and how the public can help get involved in the search other then their own backyards and sheds?? With the number of people that live in this area, it should be no trouble to get a large group of people out to search every square inch of the area to find him.
