Widespread influenza activity is still being reported by the three health authorities on the island portion of the province.

The latest influenza report from the provincial Department of Health says 66 influenza cases were identified in laboratory testing the week of Feb. 3-9.

The majority of cases were in Eastern Health (46 per cent), followed by Western Health (27 per cent), and Central Health (23 per cent). Only four per cent of the positive lab tests came from the Labrador Grenfell Health region.

In that one week, there were 26 hospitalizations and three intensive care unit admissions.

To date this influenza season, 595 cases have been identified, 203 hospitalizations have been reported in the province due to influenza and 11 people have died.

The Department of Health says the immunization status is known for 83 per cent of the confirmed flu cases. Twenty-three per cent of people confirmed with influenza had received the flu vaccine.
