Mr. U, if you think St. Johns or Newfoundland is one of the most violent drug infested parts of Canada then obviously you have not spent much time elsewhere in Canada! St. Johns is ranked 27th worst for Violent crime for cities in this country and Newfoundland is rated 11th out of 13 provinces and Territories for violent crimes. Newfoundland is still a very safe place to live. The only concern is that it is the only province in Canada who's crime rate is rising but it is still not even close to the national average. Considering the high rate of unemployment and poverty, this is actually surprisingly good.

@ MR U - Clearly you have no comprehension of what goes on outside of Newfoundland. While I agree that crime has risen significantly in recent times, to say "we live in one of the most violent, drug infested parts of Canada" is ludicrous! You must have a lived an incredibly sheltered life if you honestly believe that. Take a look at murder/assault rates for ANY other major city in Canada and you will see you are wrong. What Newfoundland needs is a better program to deal with addictions and substance abuse. There is a group of people in our communities that are perpetrating these crimes, and most of them are in need of help with these problems. I believe that if we could help them overcome their addictions we would see far less of these crimes. By the way, if this was one of the most violent places in Canada, this wouldn't be a video of someone breaking into Shoppers (unarmed) while it is closed with noone around... it would be much worse.

Its only going to get worse until this type of crime gets some real punishment put with it, drugs, young lifstyle, family, what ever the trouble that is not an excuse to do this.

The RNC & other law inforcement auth are not equipped with the rate of crime this town has seen in past few yrs.The Gov & town pump out ads to tell ppl to come visit here..failing in so many ways to grasp we live in one of the most violent, drug infested parts of Canada.
