The RNC is investigating fire damage to a number of vehicles in the area of Her Majesty’s Penitentiary in St. John’s about 2:45 a.m. this morning.

Police believe an accelerant was used and the individual responsible may have sustained injuries while carrying out the offences.

The RNC says three vehicles sustained damage — two of them moderate to minor damage and the other moderate damage.

There was also a dark-coloured vehicle in the area at the time of the incident and the RNC is seeking any information about that vehicle.

The RNC is seeking the assistance of the public in relation to this case of malicious damage.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or were in the immediate area is asked to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can also provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.

Is it just me or does most prison parking lots have a manned guard with @ least a gate?

They certainly don't pay the officers enough to work there. They are paid over 20,000 less than the Rnc but face even more danger. Sign of the times and the violence is escalating down at HMP with all the federal inmates they have in there.

Would be wonderful if the video ever actually loaded. One of the worst webpages I've visited since the days of dail-up

I would imagine this was done by an ex-inmate. As a former resident of the HMP i can see why they would do this. The guards treat the prisoners like they are dirt and show them no dignity. Im surprised it hasn`t happened before.
