The Telegram website offers only a sample of the stories our reporters, editors and photographers work hard to get to the public every day.

Thursday’s full edition of The Telegram, on the other hand, contains much, much more, from news to opinion to our expanded Community section.

• The boat could float — but it bobbed around too much, according to the owner of the yard where it was built and abandoned.

The Arctic Leader was to be a revolutionary machine. It was pitched as diesel-electric wonder, providing all the benefits of an immense freezer trawler in a size more familiar and useful to smaller operators in the provincial fishery.

As of 2004, a partnership between A.M.P. Fisheries and Terra Nova Marine Co. was promising to turn plans for the ship into reality. Those who bought into the dream, The Telegram has learned, ended up seeking their paydays in court.

Today, the companies leading the project have all but disappeared — with an abandoned office here and dead phone line there.

• Torbay’s water supply is filling the pinch, with water use nearing capacity, based on the town’s guidelines.

So the town is starting a metering project to check usage and reassess exactly what that capacity is.
