Lawn man fined for having contraband cigarettes

A 60-year-old man from Lawn pleaded guilty in provincial court in Grand Bank Wednesday to contravening Section 32(9) of the Revenue Administration Act which prohibits purchasing, possessing, acquiring, transporting, storing or selling contraband goods.

Gerald Joseph Edwards received a fine of $3,327.20 with 12 months to pay.

The RCMP says between Nov. 21 and Nov. 27, 2012, its Customs and Excise division in Burin seized 186 packs of contraband cigarettes from Edwards.

He entered a guilty plea to the charge.

The RCMP encourages anyone with information concerning criminal activity in their community, to contact any office of the RCMP or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
