The Avalon East District of the RCMP and Traffic Services are advising motorists using the Trans Canada Highway that conditions are less than ideal from Holyrood to St. John's.

There are high winds and heavy drifting in areas which are leading to total whiteout conditions.  Police are continuing to receive calls of vehicles off the road due to the slippery roads and drifting causing reduced visibility.

RCMP are reminding those traveling to slow down to speeds that are reasonable to ensure public safety in this area and be mindful that whiteout conditions can be encountered at any time given today's weather conditions.

Police believe that speeds of 60-70 km/h should be followed especially in the areas of Butter Pot Park and Witless Bay Line.
