Just weeks into his trial, child pornography possession charges against Scott Curtis have been dismissed.
Crown prosecutor Wendy Zedebiak told Judge Greg Brown in provincial court today that having reviewed the evidence, there was no likelihood of conviction.
She also requested that all material contaminated with child porn be destroyed. Brown agreed.
Outside court, defence lawyer Rosellen Sullivan said the decision was based on flawed analysis of the computer by the RNC's expert, regarding the dates the material was said to have been there.
She said if police are going to destroy someone's reputation by laying charges in such a high-profile case, it's experts ought to be sure of what they're doing.
The decision came 17 days into the trial.
Curtis, 66, was arrested in June 2009 after police said they found hundreds of pictures of child pornography and dozens more videos on Curtis's computer.
The images were alleged to have been discovered after Curtis brought his computer into a local computer shop to get upgraded. An employee at the store reportedly found child porn while transferring files from one hard drive to another.
