RNC investigate Torbay fire, pedestrian accident in St. John’s

A fire in Torbay Monday caused minor damage to a home.

Around 1:28 p.m., the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and Torbay Volunteer Fire Department responded to a residential fire in the area of Marine Drive,

Police say the fire was not suspicious in nature. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries as a result of the fire.

Also, around 5:39 p.m. Monday, RNC and ambulance personnel responded to a report of a vehicle/pedestrian collision at the intersection of Craigmiller Avenue and Cornwall Avenue in St John's.

A vehicle was turning west onto Cornwall Avenue from Craigmiller when it struck a man who was walking west on Cornwall.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital with what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Other incidents, the RNC responded to Monday include:

• 11 a.m. police received a report of a possible Impaired driver in the Paradise area. Officers located the vehicle on Paradise road. A 72-year-old man has been charged with having a blood alcohol level over the legal limit and impaired driving. He was released to appear in court.

• At 11:50 a.m.,  RNC received a report concerning a possible impaired driver in the Donovans area. A short time later, an officer observed the vehicle on Glencoe Drive. A 38-year-old male driver was taken into custody. He has been charged with Over having a blood alcohol level above the legal limit and impaired driving. He was also released to appear in court at a later date.

• At 3:15 p.m. Monday, the RNC responded to a Conception Bay South business to a report of a theft. A 51-year-old woman was charged with one count of theft. She was released to appear in court at a later date.

• Around 10 p.m., RNC patrol officers arrested a 30-year-old woman in the Empire Avenue area of St. John’s for mischief and breach of an undertaking. She was detained until a court appearance this morning.
