The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is advising motorists to reduce their speeds this morning because of heavy rainfall in the St. John's-metro region.

There is significant water buildup on most roadways which may cause hydroplaning, the RNC cautions.

In the 24 hours between early Sunday morning and this morning, the RNC received only 81 calls for service.

Police say it was a quiet evening and no arrests to report.

RNC Patrol Services in the Corner Brook region received 14 calls for service during the 24 hour period ending at 4 a.m. today.

Among them, around 11:30 a.m., RNC  officers in Corner Brook responded to a complaint of theft at a Murphy's Square premises.

A 28-year-old man from Corner Brook was arrested and held for court.

Police say charges of theft and breaches of court orders are pending against the man.
