Case of alleged ‘sticky note bandit’ called in court

The case of a man who RNC dubbed the Sticky Note Bandit was called this morning in first-appearance court at provincial court in St. John's.

Brian Ross Kennedy wasn't in court when his case was called in Courtroom No. 7. Instead, he was represented by his lawyer Bill Kennedy (no relation).

Kennedy told Judge Greg Brown he has just received the police evidence on the case and needs time to review it.

The case is due back in court March 21.

Kennedy is accused of having entered several businesses, put sticky notes on items with "sold" written on them, as well as a name written on them. He would then return to the stores later claiming he's there to pick up the items, which he claimed had been paid for.

The 32-year-old is charged with six counts of fraud under $5,000.

The frauds were said to have happened between Oct. 20 and Nov. 25, 2012, at the Travel Bug, Dominion, Bell Aliant, Chatters hair salon, Coles book store and Sword and Steel.

"Kennedy told Judge Greg Brown he has just received the police evidence on the case and needs time to review it." Shouldn't this be done BEFORE the court appearance?????
