Canadian music icon Stompin’ Tom Connors has died at the age of 77, according to a news release published on his official webpage, www.stompintom.com.

The singer, originally from Saint John, N.B., is known for songs such as “The Hockey Song” and “Bud The Spud.”

According to the news release, he died in his Ontario home of natural causes. Connors is survived by his wife, four children and several grandchildren. His family requests that instead of sending flowers, people make donations to food banks and homeless shelters.

A public celebration of his life will take place 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Peterborough Memorial Centre in Peterborough, Ont.
