Heavy rain in the St. John's area this morning has caused some flooding on Southside Road in St. John's.

Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning this morning for Avalon Peninsula southeast and southwest and St. John's and vicinity.

The weather office said rainfall amounts could reach near 30 mms in the St. John's area before tapering off to a few showers this afternoon.

The rainy weather is blamed on a trough of low pressure over central Newfoundland moving slowly across the island today.

Environment Canada says the rain, at times heavy over Eastern Newfoundland, will move offshore this afternoon.
