The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary laid several impaired driving charges in the St. John's region Sunday on St. Patrick's Day.
One man was charged with impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol limit above the legal limit after a traffic stop on Pitt’s Memorial Drive near Kilbride early Sunday. The accused was released to appear in court at a later date.
A man from Conception Bay South was charged with impaired driving and refusing the breathalyzer on Sunday. Police acted on a tip from a citizen and located the driver in the centre of St. John’s. The accused was held for court.
Another man was charged with impaired driving in the early morning hours Sunday, after being involved in a single-vehicle accident. Police say the accused was uninjured and is due in court at a later date.
A man was also charged with impaired driving by a drug after a traffic stop on Kenmount Road in St. John’s. He was arrested early Sunday and is due in court at a later date.
Three people were also detained under the Detention of Intoxicated Persons Act. No charges have been laid.
The RNC also charged an adult male with assault and breach of court order. The accused was held in custody to appear in court this morning.
Police say the assault occurred in the Freshwater Road area of St. John’s. No serious injuries were reported.
Meanwhile, early this morning, a woman was given a 90-day driving suspension for operating a motor vehicle with alcohol in her system above the legal limit after she was stopped by police.
