Two men are facing charges following separate domestic violence incidents Friday in Nain, Labrador.
A 27-year-old man was arrested following an incident about 7:15 p.m. Friday when the RCMP responded to a report that a 22-year-old woman, who had been in an argument with the accused, had been struck in the head with the man’s fist.
The accused then is alleged to have thrown a phone at the woman striking her in the head and causing a cut. She was taken to the clinic, treated and released.
The accused was arrested, charged and released from custody on a court order to appear in provincial court at Nain on June 12. The charges include assault with a weapon and assault.
In the second incident, about 9 p.m., an argument between a 34-year-old woman and her 32-year-old boyfriend resulted in the man allegedly hitting the woman in the head area several times with his fist. It is then alleged he pushed her onto the couch while covering her mouth so she couldn't breath.
The woman managed to escape and ran to a near by house where she called police.
The man was arrested shortly after without incident. He appeared in provincial court in Nain Saturday and was remanded in custody to appear in provincial court again Tuesday.
Charges included overcoming resistance to commission of offence (choking), assault, uttering threats and six breaches of court orders.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in both incidents.
