Police in Nain have arrested a 59-year-old male for allegedly assaulting his brother with a fire poker.

The RCMP was called to a home in the community at 11 p.m. Monday. According to a news release, the two men were involved in an argument before the accused hit his brother in the head with a fire poker.

The man was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon. He has been released on a court order and is due to return to court on May 8.

The victim, 56, was treated at a local health clinic for minor injuries and later released.

Police believe alcohol consumption played a role in the incident.
