NORTH RIVER, N.L. - RCMP in eastern Newfoundland say a woman faces charges after a parent allegedly assaulted the principal of her child’s elementary school.

Officers were called to a disturbance at All Hallows Elementary School in North River on Tuesday afternoon.

The Mounties say no one was hurt and they do not believe the safety of students was compromised at any time.

Investigators are trying to determine what led to the alleged assault.

Const. Gregory Francis says a 30-year-old woman faces charges of assault, uttering threats and causing a disturbance.

She is due in court on May 22.

To Anom and Townie...You two are laughably pathetic in your feeble quest at political correctness.. You don't know the situation and from the other commenters, there definitely are extenuating circumstances..Wait until you hear all the facts before opening your mouths.. Of course your type won't ever change your position on anything regardless how inane it may be.. Yes, children are a handful these days, but teachers overstep all the time and their zealousness sometimes results in the type of abuse that we all thought of as abhorrent back in the day..I applaud this mother for grabbing the bull by the horns and tackling the situation head on. She should be an example for all parents to follow. These are your kids. They're not there for people to abuse, whether it be physically, verbally or psychologically....

To original townie no parent would go into a school and assault a principal for no reason obviously something else is going on..clearly it had to be a bad situation. For a mother of a innocent child to go and flip out!!!! Any parent or guardian who loves and adores their child would do the samething!!! Our children are precious little lives.... If for some reason you feel your child's life has been threatened or placed in harms way or abused your telling me you would be calm cool and collected ???? Cause I can guarantee for a fact that many mothers and fathers and guardians will stand by me in saying they would defend their child to the death!!!! ... We send our kids to school to be taught the knowledge they need for their life..... Not to be locked in a closet for two hours....(allegedly ).... Really makes me wonder what other kinds of abuse goes on there!!!!!! And you shouldn't judge any one until you know the full story!!!!!!!! Stop being so naive

These days if the childen look the wrong way the teachers and principals are complaining. Some of the teachers and principals have behaviour problems themselves and at most times a lot is blown out of portion by them which esclates into a full blown argument with parents. You almost need a video camera in place when you meet with them to prove the right and wrong.... It scares the crap out of me as to see what the school system has come to these days.

I think Original Townie is passing judgment in all the right places, and they are correct in what they are saying. Everyone gets put in frustrating situations that always have the potential to lead to bigger things, however a grown adult should have the self control and common sense to know that you don't take that route. I think they are setting an awful example for the child, showing them that in order to deal with a situation you throw around threats. No matter how that mother wants to look at it, the principal of the school is a person of authority over their child and they need to show respect for that person and deal with situations in a grown up, respectful manner. You teach your children not to throw a punch when life gets though, well maybe we should be showing them how to watch their mouth as well.

Don't judge there Original Townie...I have a child in the school system who is coming from a very healthy, loving home and every day there seems to be an issue with his "behaviour." If you call laughing amongst his friends and being a normal child poor behaviour. It kind of gets to you, when every other day, the school is calling about petty things like that. I can't change my childs fun loving and happy go lucky personality. If you can't handle this type of child, then don't be a teacher. We don't know what that Mom has been put through with the school system and teachers alike. I have been put in very frustrating situations with the Eastern School District before and believe me could have done damage too. Please don't judge her!

I also have a child who is is in the school system. Storys of out of control kids who fight and in some cases have acutually attacked other kids seem tobe coming more fequent. Teachers are just that teachers they are not mental health professionals. they are required to teach and give medications to some children who in all honesty should not be in a classroom with other children. In cost cutting measures school boards have made away with special education class rooms were some children who have issues due to no fault of their own are able to learn with teachers who have trained to deal and help these children thrive in small groups. My child is also funny loving and sometimes must be spoken to. My motto is there is a time and place for everything. Learn the rules and tow the line. Cause in the real world if you can't follow the rules. your gone and theres always someone who can take your job!Do I jugde the Mom. Yes I do that school is full of children who have a right tobe protected and made feel that its a safe place. And whether its a child or parent who is out of control I expect the school staff to protect my child. and all others. So I say Take your crazy else were!

What a great example for her child. I can only imagine the envoirment this kid is growing up in. Let's hope the cycle doesn't extend into the next generation.

Keep in mind everyone that "Ten electricians working in Long Harbour won the $30 million on the Lotto Max".....and that was supposed to have been to gospel truth....they were supposed to have walked off the job and names were even given......yet the couple from Placentia were the ones that came forward....lol
