Finance Minister Jerome Kennedy announced today the provincial government has reached a tentative agreement with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Association (RNCA).
“Negotiations between the two parties have resulted in a mutually beneficial agreement,” Kennedy said in a news release.
“This tentative agreement is the first during this round of negotiations with public sector employees. Discussions with other unions are continuing and I look forward to the successful conclusion of these negotiations.”
The RNCA will be presenting the tentative agreement to its members for ratification in the coming weeks.
“Collective bargaining during periods of austerity is always difficult,” said Tim Buckle, president of the RNCA. “However, we are pleased that we have been able to craft a tentative agreement that is innovative and progressive which we have recommended our members to accept.”
The RNCA represents more than 380 non-commissioned ranks of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
