Eastern Health is advising the public that visitation to the Placentia Health Centre/Lions Manor Nursing Home in Placentia is restricted to immediate family members only due to an increase in gastrointestinal illness.
The health authority says immediate family members should contact the site directly at (709) 227-2061 for further direction on visitation.
Outpatient services at the Placentia Health Centre, such as the emergency department, outpatient clinics, laboratory services, diagnostic imaging and blood collection, will continue as normal.
Respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses continue to be common in the community this time of year.
Eastern Health says the public is asked not to visit any health-care facility if they feel ill or are experiencing flu-like or gastrointestinal symptoms. For infection prevention, people are also advised to wash their hands frequently, cover their coughs or sneezes with a tissue or the crook of their arms and refrain from touching their faces.
The visitor restrictions will remain in effect until further notice. A list of facilities currently restricted to visitors can be viewed online at www.easternhealth.ca.
Eastern Health said it apologizes for any inconvenience.
