RNC investigating armed robbery, assault

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to 173 calls for service in a 24-hour period up to early this morning.

Among them:

• On Monday at 4:30 p.m., RNC patrol officers responded to a business on Merrymeeting Road in St. John's to a report of an armed robbery. The RNC K-9 unit and Criminal Investigation Division officers were called to the scene.

No arrests have been made and police say no one was injured during the incident. The investigation is still ongoing.

• On Monday at 8:15 p.m., RNC patrol officers responded to a home in the LeMarchant Road area of St. John’s to a report of an assault.

Upon arrival, police arrested a male youth for one count of assault and one count of uttering threats.

Police said the alleged female victim was known to the male and suffered minor injuries. The accused was held in custody for court this morning.

• Also on Monday night, around 10 p.m., RNC patrol officers responded to the area of Waterford Bridge Road in St. John’s to a report of an intoxicated person. Police located the man and upon further investigation it was determined that he was in breach of a court order.

The 34- year-old man was charged with two breaches of his court order and held in custody for court this morning.

Missing man located

• RNC patrol officers have also located Greg Wickens, a man who had been reported missing Monday.

Police say a member of the public called police to report they had spotted a vehicle believed to be associated with him in the area of the Portugal Cove-St. Philips near the Bell Island ferry terminal,

Police found him in the vehicle around 8 p.m. Monday and determined he was physically fine. The RNC said he was conveyed home to his family.
