@Holly it was after the sister came forward with an interview that the media came out with pics,if you had to read the earlier story from the telegram they wouldn't identify the grave site to protect the family! Sounds like to me someone is sending a message to someone, the sad part to this is that there are family and children left dealing with this.Again the unfortunate part is when you deal with this kind of activity you involve your whole family not just yourself.Shame on the ones who did this but then again you are not dealing with ordinary people here.

This is disgusting on all levels. A normal human being would not do this s$#^%. The family are people just like you and me so please do not judge what you do not know. Every one deserves the right to grieve about their husband, father brother etc without having to deal with some loser trying to make a stupid point that to no one else makes sense. I hope they catch him and lock him up in a mental hospital where obviously he/she belongs.

This is a disturbing story. Strong messages being sent to those who are in a position to provide information to the police regarding the diverse scale of crimminal activity surrounding this entire situation. This is the type of story that would come out of east Los Angeles in the early seventies when the gangs went from petty theft to large scale drug activity. I don't envy the police. I don't think they have the resources or experiance to deal with this issue. St. John's and the surrounding bedroom communities is getting out of control.

Please if anybody out there knows who did this just call crime stoppers! I am not a rat but if I knew who it was I would really consider having to do this just for respect for Joey and his family! Come on people this is sick and these people need to be found! This is gone way overboard! Let's get these sick people please! R.i.p joey

What has this city come to!!!! Time to get rid of our legal system and bring back either a strong justice system or hire vigilantes to rid this city of the punks.

Are you kidding me? This is sickening. What kind of demented people go around doing stuff like this? It's not bad enough that the man was beaten to death, now they have to destroy his final resting place? From the pictures it looks like there may be another family member already resting in that location which makes it even more despicable. Not only is Joey Whalen being disrespected but also whomever else is resting there. I truly hope those responsible are apprehended ASAP and prosecuted to the FULL extent of the law. I just have one comment to the perpetrators, "I hope you can sleep at night knowing what you have done but remember one thing, what goes around, comes around. KARMA is a bi__h!"

When I hear " indignity to a human body," I think an act done to the body itself as opposed to vandalize a grave. This story says the grave was disturbed. Does this mean that someone actually dug up the body?

Pick on the dead. Whoever did this heinous crime won't ever see any real punishment. You watch. The scumbags are laughing at decent people and or justice system is giving them reason to.

So much for respect for the family. Were the photographs or the identification of the deceased really necessary? Hurtful and ghoulish.
