The Telegram website offers only a sample of the stories our reporters, editors and photographers work hard to get to the public every day.

Monday’s full edition of The Telegram, on the other hand, contains much, much more, from news to opinion to our expanded Sports section.

• The Newfoundland Regional Appeal Board has found an order to repair given by the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s to the Anglican Diocese of Newfoundland and Labrador is legally invalid.

The order was for the diocese to repair the St. Philip’s Heritage Church, built in 1894.

The issue with the church began three yeas ago when the local Anglican parish made an application to the town to allow for the demolition of the structure. By that time, the church had already been vacant for several years.

The demolition application was rejected, but the next morning, the steeple of the church had mysteriously been cut down.

• Jim Learning of Happy Valley-Goose Bay was on Day 3 of his hunger strike as of Sunday, according to NunatuKavut President Todd Russell.

The 74-year-old Métis elder was arrested Friday morning, along with seven other protesters (including Russell), during a protest on the Trans-Labrador Highway.

The group was protesting the Muskrat Falls hydroelectric project, and was disrupting the flow of traffic coming to and from the project’s work site.

• For the first time in the almost century and a half of the church’s life, a Newfoundland minister has been named Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.

Rev. David Sutherland is a Nova Scotian who grew up in Cape Breton. He came to Newfoundland in 1977 to become minister of St. Matthew’s Church in Grand Falls-Windsor, where he served for two years. He had subsequent pastorates in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and returned to Newfoundland and Labrador in 1999 to serve at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, also known as The Kirk, in St. John’s.
