RCMP major crimes unit involved in investigation; neighbour believes man was stabbed

This was the scene Sunday outside a home in Grand Falls-Windsor. Two people are in police custody in connection with the death of a person. No charges were laid as of Sunday.

Two people are in custody following an incident in Grand Falls-Windsor that has left one person dead. The RCMP issued a news release Sunday evening stating the RCMP major crimes unit is investigating, but no charges have been laid.

While police have not confirmed the location of the incident or any details about what occurred, a house on 18th Avenue in Grand Falls-Windsor was cordoned off and an RCMP vehicle was parked outside early Sunday evening. The home is located in the west end of the community.

Neighbour Jim Whiffen said an ambulance and police cars arrived at the house around 10:30 that morning.

According to Whiffen, the house is as an emergency shelter with many residents staying there each month. He said a man that appeared to be in his 30s was staying there most recently. Whiffen said it is believed the man was stabbed and that the two people in custody are both female.

A spokesman for the RCMP B Division said further details will not be available until the major crimes unit begins to investigate the matter.

Two people are in police custody in Grand Falls-Windsor in connection to an incident in the community that resulted in the death of a person.

According to a news release issued early Sunday evening, no charges have been laid in connection to the incident, but Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP are actively investigating the matter.

While details were scarce as of Sunday, there was a noticeable police presence outside of a home located in the west end of the community. An RCMP vehicle was parked outside of a home on 18th Avenue. Police tape and orange pylons were also in place outside the home.

RCMP in Grand Falls-Windsor will be assisted by the RCMP’s major crimes unit in the investigation.

A spokesman for the RCMP B Division said further details will not be available until the major crimes unit begins to investigate the matter.
