Western Health announced Tuesday that cases of gastrointestinal illness has forced the regional health authority to implement visitor restrictions at a long-term care facility in Stephenville Crossing.
The restriction applies to the memory lane/protective care unit at Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre.
Western Health is calling it a temporary measure and said exceptions may be made for immediate family members if extenuating circumstances are an issue. Anyone interested in visiting a relative at the facility is asked to call staff ahead of time.
The health authority is asking people to wash and sanitize their hands when visiting any of its facilities. It also wants people experiencing symptoms of gastrointestinal illess to avoid visiting Western Health facilities until at least 48 hours after those symptoms were last experienced.
