Torbay firefighters, aided by a waterbomber and helicopter from the forestry division of the Department of Natural Resources, extinguished a large brush fire at Flatrock this afternoon.

A large brush fire is burning in the Flatrock area at this hour in the area of Admirals View Road, a side road in the town.

The fire is burning in light brush and trees about 200 metres away from homes in the area and the wind is now blowing back towards Flatrock. The fire is currently spreading toward a heavier forested area.

Firefighters from the Torbay Fire Department and forestry crews are at the scene. A water bomber and helicopter have also been dispatched to help fight the fire.

Oh dear, what will happen now with the waterbomber cuts. I guess the Government are going to have to fork over a fuel budget before they had planned.

Maybe Kathy will dilute the fuel. Remember, her motto is pay less for more.
