The RNC were kept quite busy overnight with various calls of disturbances, driving offenses, mental health act concerns, and alarms.
Members of RNC responded to the sudden death of a 20 year old female in the centre part of St. John’s. Police are on the scene and the matter is under active investigation.
RNC officers stopped a vehicle in the east end of St. John’s for the purpose of a traffic safety stop and discovered the driver had a suspended license, no insurance, and other Highway Traffic Act offenses. The driver was arrested and released to appear in court at a later date.
RNC Officers stopped a vehicle on Torbay Road in St. John’s. A 24-year-old male was charged with impaired driving, refusing to take a breath test, driving while suspended, driving without insurance, and other Highway Traffic Act offenses. The accused was also charged with breaching a court order.
Police responded to a single vehicle accident on Blackmarsh Road in the area of Captain Whelan Drive. Upon arrival a car was found on its roof in the ditch. The driver had left the scene. It was learned that this vehicle was stolen from a residence in the west end of St. John’s. The matter is under investigation.
A St. John’s taxi operator reported to the RNC that he was attacked by two men who were passengers in his cab. The matter is currently under investigation with the RNC looking for the suspects. The taxi operator suffered minor injuries and did not require medical attention.
Police responded to the area of Columbus Drive in St. John’s after a motorist complained that a passengers of a bus were throwing beer bottles and cans at his vehicle. The matter is under investigation.
RNC officers responded to a call of a disturbance at a CBS night club. It was alleged a ruckus occurred after bar patrons were confronted about abusing illegal narcotics in the establishment. The suspects had left the area upon police arrival. During the investigation a male in his late twenties was detained and then released for a possible court order breach. The matter is still under investigation.
An RNC officer on patrol noticed a single vehicle crashed into a pole on Pearltown Road in St. John’s. Upon investigation it was learned the driver was impaired. A 49-year-old male has been charged with impaired driving. There were no injuries.
In another incident on Pearltown Road, a vehicle was stopped on the tip of a concerned citizen and it was discovered the operator was impaired. The driver, a 48-year-old male, has been charged with impaired driving and is due in court at a later date.
