Seek public's help to identify suspect

The RNC is requesting the public’s help to identifying the person responsible for an armed robbery at the Bank of Montreal on Elizabeth Avenue in St. John’s Monday.

About 12:10 p.m. Monday, the male suspect armed with a knife entered the bank and demanded cash. He fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

There were no injuries during the incident.

The male suspect is described as approximately 5’9” to 5’10” with an average build. At the time of the incident he was wearing a black winter jacket and jeans. The suspect’s face was concealed.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating another armed robbery reported in St. John's, the second in less than a 12-hour period.

But in the second one, police say the armed person was unsuccessful in getting cash because of the actions of the store clerk.

According to RNC, around 11:50 p.m. Monday, police received a report of an armed robbery at a service station on Freshwater Road.

RNC patrol officers, K-9 unit, identification services and Criminal Investigation Division members responded to the call.

It was reported that a masked  person entered the store carrying a weapon, but when confronted by the male clerk at the store, this person with the weapon fled the area.

Police say the person was unsuccessful in obtaining anything  from the store and there were no reported injuries as a result of the incident.

No arrests have been made at this time concerning this incident. An investigation is continuing.

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary believe it was a male who committed an armed robbery at a bank in St. John’s shortly after noon Monday.

According to a news release issued late Monday afternoon, the suspect was carrying a knife when he entered the Bank of Montreal outlet on Elizabeth Avenue. He was also said to be wearing a face mask and a black hooded jacket.

Police said the suspect demanded money and later left the scene by foot with an undisclosed amount. He was reportedly spotted running toward Freshwater Road.

No injuries were reported during the incident. The bank contacted police shortly after 12 p.m.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is currently at the scene of a robbery that occurred around noon today at the Bank of Montreal on Elizabeth Avenue west in St. John's. 

Investigators with the RNC Criminal Investigation Division, Police Dog Service, Forensic Identification Section and Patrol Services are currently on the scene.

The RNC says it's very early in the investigation and further details will be released when they become available.
