RNC investigating thefts, break-in

In the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary's overnight report, police responded to 160 calls for service in a 24-hour period up to early Friday morning.

Among them:

• Around 5:45 p.m. Thursday, police responded to Sears, Avalon Mall to a report of theft.

Patrol officers charged a 24-year-old woman with theft and she was released to appear in court.

A second woman was arrested for theft and several breaches of court orders. The 38-year-old woman has been held in custody for court.

• Around 11:51 p.m. Thursday, officers conducted a traffic safety stop on Route 60 in Conception Bay South.

As a result a 37-year-old man was charged with driving while prohibited. He has been held for court and his vehicle was Impounded.

• Around 2:30 a.m. Friday, a concerned citizen called police stating he observed a person breaking into an establishment in the center of the city.

RNC patrol units and the K-9 unit responded quickly and were successful in arresting a 54-year-old man inside the establishment.

He was charged with break, entry and theft, along with two breaches of undertakings and two breaches of probation. He was held in custody for court.
