No injuries in early morning fire

There were no injuries reported in a residential fire early this morning on Vimy Avenue in St. John's that saw extensive damage to one residence and moderate damage to another.

The RNC says it received a call about 3:45 a.m. Officers responded to the scene along with the St. John's Regional Fire Department and paramedics from Eastern Heath.

The Canadian Red Cross, Newfoundland Power and Newfoundland and Labrador Housing were also called to the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.


In another incident on Sunday evening, the Canadian Red Cross announced that a woman and her five-year-old son were not injured when fire extensively damaged one side of a duplex in St. John's. The other unit was not damaged.


The two are staying with relatives for now and have received emergency help from the Canadian Red Cross, including food and personal-care items. Additional needs will be assessed today.

The fire, at 12 Hoyles Ave., was reported shortly after 6 p.m.
