The Department of Natural Resources is reminding the general public to act responsibly when burning grass or brush.

A news release notes the Avalon Peninsula is experiencing dry conditions and, as a result, the forest fire index is at medium to extreme levels. Under such conditions it is imperative that residents remain vigilant when burning grass or brush, and ensure they obtain a burning permit and follow the conditions outlined.

The number to report a fire is toll-free 1-866-709-FIRE (3473). For information, contact a district forestry office or visit www.gov.nl.ca/nr/department/contact/forestry/forestry.html.
