Corey Squibb, 18, appeared in provincial court in St. John’s this afternoon on charges of mischief and making threats by text messaging against O’Donel High School in Mount Pearl earlier today.

Crown prosecutor William Cadigan told Judge Colin Flynn that Squibb was off certain medication he needs when the incident occurred.

Squibb will be held in custody overnight for a psychatric assessment and his case will be called in court again Thursday.

The RNC has now charged an 18-year-old with uttering threats and mischief in connection with a threat made to a Mount Pearl high school.

According to the RNC, the accused was arrested Wednesday after four schools in the community initiated the secure school protocol. Those schools included O’Donel High School, where the initial threat was received.

Police say the accused will appear in court later today. The schools have since lifted the secure school protocol.

A male was arrested Wednesday after four Mount Pearl schools initiated secure school protocols in response to a potential threat received at one of the schools.

According to a statement released by Eastern School District, O’Donel High School received the threat. School administration contacted the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and initiated the secure school protocol in the interest of student safety.

Police later advised three other schools in the community — St. Peter’s Elementary, Mount Pearl Intermediate and Mount Pearl Senior High — to initiate the same measures as O’Donel.

The RNC responded to the matter at 11 a.m. and later arrested the male suspect. Police said there were no injuries. The secure school protocols have since been lifted, and the RNC is continuing to investigate.
