A man on court orders to stay out of trouble, found himself back in police custody early this morning after RCMP in Stephenville stopped a speeding vehicle in the community and the driver ran off leading police officers on a short foot chase.
The accused, Richard Mansfield, 24, was quickly apprehended and now faces new charges.
Mansfield also appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time and given the breath test demand.
The RCMP says officers also found 199 grams of cocaine and a small quantity of marijuana.
Mansfield faces charges including: impaired operation of a vehicle, operating a vehicle while impaired, obstruction of a police officer, five counts of breach of recognizance entered into before a judge, possession of marijuana less than 30 grams, and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
He was held in custody overnight and made a brief appearance this morning in provincial court. He has been remanded for another court appearance on Tuesday.
