The Telegram newsroom earned top honours for breaking news reporting in print at the Atlantic Journallism Awards, held Saturday evening in Halifax.

The newsroom team was the gold winner for breaking/spot news reporting in print for its coverage of post-tropical storm Leslie. The Telegram was one of three finalists for the award, with the other finalists earning silver honours.

In the commentary category for any medium, Telegram editorial page editor Russell Wangersky took silver honours for his column headlined "Trotting out the bogeyman."

Telegram photojournalist Joe Gibbons also earned a silver award at the event for photojournalism spot news in newspapers for his coverage of barn fires in Goulds.
