A 25-year-old man has been charged in connection with the theft of a dirt bike and other items in Carbonear earlier this week.

About 3 p.m. Thursday in the area of Bristol’s Hope, the RCMP attempted to stop a man on a dirt bike that matched the description of the one stolen.

The operator of the dirt bike would not stop and fled the area.

About 8 a.m. today, RCMP officers arrested the accused. The dirt bike has been recovered and other stolen items not yet reported to police.

The stolen property has been returned to the owner.

The accused faces charges of possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and flight from police.

He was released from custody to appear in provincial court at a later date.

Police are still seeking the public's assistance in locating the missing tools. Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

The RCMP say suspects the garage through a rear window and stole a 2011 blue and white Yamaha YZ250 dirt bike with pink handle grips. Also stolen was a white and pink helmet and gloves.

Put him in jail for 10 years but there is another problem. Those that condem this action but given the chance to buy a generator or power tools really cheap jump at it. The so-called honest people. They are just as guilty if not more because they foster the activity and are the first to complain if someting is stolen from them...........
