The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary impounded a three-wheel motorbike in Conception Bay South early this morning.

The 21-year-old driver has been charged with offences under the Highway Traffic Act, impaired operation of a vehicle and breach of a court order.

According to police, around 2 a.m., while on patrol in the Kelligrews area, RNC noted a motor bike being driven on a public roadway.

The RNC said the driver attempted to avoid being checked by police and sped off onto a trail.

A short time later, officers located the suspect, who was held in custody and is expected to appear in court today.

Police also arrested three other drivers Thursday for various traffic violations.

Around 1:24 p.m., police seized a vehicle after a traffic stop on Parade Street in St. John’s. The driver was issued summary offence tickets for a number of traffic violations, including a suspended licence.

The 49-year-old man driving the vehicle was also charged with breach of a court order and was detained for court. Police said he owes about $35,000 in fines.

Around 5:26 p.m. Thursday, a 47-year-old man received several tickets after a traffic stop for driving without valid insurance, failing to transfer ownership and operating a motor vehicle while his licence was suspended.

The driver also owed about $8,000 in fines. The vehicle was impounded.

At 10:30 p.m. Thursday, RNC street patrol conducted a traffic safety stop in the Livingstone Street area of St. John's.

Police say a male driver was found to be driving without a valid licence, insurance or registration. In addition, he owes $8,000 in traffic fines and police had an arrest warrant for the man for failing to appear for court.

He was held in police custody until a court appearance this morning.
