Serious accident sends Lewisporte man to hospital: RCMP suspect alcohol involved

Lewisporte RCMP suspect alcohol consumption may have been a factor in a Saturday morning motor vehicle accident that sent a resident of the community to hospital.

Police were informed of a single-vehicle accident on Route 340 near Michael’s Harbour shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday. The vehicle reportedly struck a utility pole and was cut in half on impact.

Lewisporte Fire and Rescue used an extraction device get the 30-year-old driver out of the vehicle. He was transported to James Paton Memorial Regional Hospital in Gander to be treated for unspecified injuries.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
