RNC responds to 117 calls

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to 117 calls for service in 24 hours up to 4 a.m. this morning in the St. John's-metro region.

Among them:

• At 11:50 a.m. Sunday, as a result of a traffic safety stop on Water Street in St. John's, a 33-year-old man was charged with a breach of court orders and several offences under the Highway Traffic Act.

Police say the man was also wanted under an outstanding warrant. He also owed more than $8,000 in fines. He was detained for court and his vehicle was impounded.


• At 12:30 p.m., the RNC and St. John's Regional Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle collision on Bay Bulls Road at the intersection of Doyles Road.

As a result, a woman was transported to hospital where she was treated and released. The RNC said there was extensive damage to both vehicles. The cause of the collision still under investigation.


• At 4:44  p.m. Sunday,  police responded to a complaint of theft from a Blackmarsh Road business in St John’s.

A 49-year-old man has been charged with theft and breach of a court order. He was detained for court in the morning.


• At 4:10 p.m. Sunday,  police conducted a traffic safety stop in Torbay following a complaint of a possible impaired driver. As a result, a 49-year-old man was charged with impaired driving and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit. He was released for a court appearance.


• At 9:30 p.m. Sunday, the RNC responded to a disturbance on Empire Avenue in St. John’s where two men, 20 and 53 years of age, were charged with assault.

Both were released to appear in court at a later date.


• At 2 a.m. Monday,  police responded to a call of a person needing assistance in a wooded area off Park Avenue, in Mount Pearl.

Patrol members located a 46 -year-old man on a trail where he was given assistance by paramedics for an apparent drug overdose. He was held in custody for treatment.


• The RNC also attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the Pouch Cove area where a 31-year-old drive fled from police. He was apprehended a short time later and charged with Impaired driving and refusing the breathalyzer. He was held in custody until a court appearance.
