Police seeking public’s help to solve the crime

The RNC is investigating the theft a large quantity of winning Molson “Turn for” bottle caps in St. John’s — caps that mean prizes for customers.

The bottle caps give drinkers a chance to win 6-pack and 12-pack cases of beer by looking for winning caps inside specially marked cases.

The RNC advises, however, that as a result of the theft, Molson has changed the ink in the winning caps. Thus, a cap that contains a message in either blue or red ink will be one of the stolen caps and is no longer authentic.

The message under the cap for all official winning caps is printed exclusively in black ink in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Molson Coors Canada issued the following statement:

“We were fortunate to learn of this issue before the program started, and have taken the necessary steps to fix it by changing the colour of the ink used in the winning messages,” the statement reads. “It’s important that beer drinkers know we take the legitimacy of these programs very seriously.”

The RNC is continuing to investigate this offence and is seeking the assistance of the general public. Investigators are asking anyone with information in relation to this theft to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.

The RNC is also issuing a reminder that any person that is in possession of stolen property can be charged criminally under the Criminal Code of Canada.

Was just thinking as I read, would it have not been better to just use the new ones in black ink, AND SEE WHO SHOWS UP WITH ONE OF THE COLORED STOLEN ONES??? The people who do this sort of thing are not too bright. But as I said some one will probably show up with one, save crimestoppers the money, they are not too bright as I said hahahahaha

Why not keep it quiet so that when they claim a prize, call the RNC. If the program wasn't started, does that mean no other winning caps were distributed?? So the only winning caps out there would be the stolen ones??
