Jonathan Richard Kent, 20, of Carbonear, has been charged with the attempted armed robbery of the Red Circle Convenience Store on Water Street in Carbonear on May 14.

Kent was arrested the day after the incident but was released at the time without being charged.

The RCMP's investigation into the incident continued and Kent was re-arrested Tuesday and charged with attempted armed robbery, disguise with intent and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The facts of the case are that on May 14, a masked suspect brandishing a knife had entered the Red Circle Convenience Store and demanded cash from the store clerk.

The suspect was unsuccessful in the attempt and fled the area on foot.

Kent has again been released from custody but on a number of conditions. He is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Harbour Grace Aug. 20.
