Accidents and impaired drivers keep RNC busy

The RNC responded to 178 calls in a 24 hour period over the weekend.



At 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, RNC members attended an accident on Anspach Street involving a vehicle and a bicycle.  An adult male was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries. The road was closed for a period of time while members of the accident investigation unit examined the scene.


At 9:00 p.m. Saturday night, RNC members responded to a report of a single vehicle accident in the center of St. John’s. There were no injuries. A 37-year-old male was charged with impaired driving, failing the breathalyzer, open liquor in a motor vehicle, operating a vehicle with no insurance, not having a driver’s license, operating an un-registered vehicle, and failing to transfer ownership of a motor vehicle. The male driver also had $22,000 in outstanding fines. His vehicle was impounded and he was held for court.


RNC officers responded to a report of a disturbance in Mount Pearl after 11:00 p.m. Saturday night. Upon arrival they arrested a 46-year-old male for assault with a weapon. He was released to appear in court at a later date.


RNC officers also responded to a report from a concerned citizen of an impaired driver in the area of Brookfield Road in St. John’s. A 31-year-old female was charged with impaired driving and failing the breathalyzer. She was released to appear in court at a later date.
