A single-vehicle accident took the life of a 56-year-old man on Sunday.
The incident happened around 11 a.m. in the eastbound lane of the Outer Ring Road between the Pitts Memorial Drive overpass and the Kenmount Road overpass.
The man was the lone occupant at the time when his vehicle left the road and went down over an embankment into a thickly wooded area behind Donovan’s Industrial Park.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The RNC said the man’s next of kin were being notified and out of respect for the family, the man’s name would not be released.
The RNC had the eastbound lane of the Outer Ring Road between the two overpasses closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic for several hours while it continued its investigation into the incident.
As part of the investigation, the RNC is asking anyone who has any information in relation to the collision to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. You can also provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers website at www.nlcrimestoppers.
