Crown opposes release; both scheduled for Courtroom 7 today

Two men who police suspect are involved in violent activities connected to outlaw motorcycle gangs remained in custody over the weekend.

Allan Winfield Potter, 50, and Bradley John Summers, 32, both made brief appearances before Judge Lori Marshall at Weekend and Statutory Holidays Court in

St. John’s on Saturday. The crown was opposed to their release, so both men will be back in court this morning.

Each man faces four counts of assault — two of which are joint charges — while Summers faces four counts of uttering threats and Potter one for the same charge. The latter charge for uttering threats is also a joint one. The charges relate to multiple victims, some of whom are listed as “unknown.”

Both men were polite as they interacted with Marshall. Potter smiled during his appearance.

In a joint news release issued Friday, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and the RCMP said the charges relate to incidents that happened in the George Street area of St. John’s between March and May of this year.

On Friday, RNC Const. Talia Murphy told reporters the police would not name “any particular outlaw motorcycle gang that these individuals may be associated (with) at this time.”

Potter and Summers were both arrested earlier that afternoon at the corner of Duckworth Street and Bates Hill.

The street address listed for Summers on a court document is for a house on Hamilton Avenue that was targeted last May in what police have called a suspicious incident. The fire damaged two homes, a Mercedes-Benz and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Earlier this month, RNC Chief Robert Johnston told reporters that it was suspected that incident and a recent drive-by shooting in a residential neighbourhood in St. John’s were somehow connected. The drive-by targeted the wrong house, according to police.

Is his pants held up by a rope? Anyone who has a kid that don't like showering daily should show them this pic. See ...if you don't wash daily then when the police arrest you look like this after being stuck in jail a few days. That boy needs some hygiene lessons.

I suspect that the RNC are holding them for the assaults while gathering evidence for the more serious fire arms charges.
