An RNC officer at the scene of a fire that has consumed a home in Mount Pearl says there is no word yet on what may have started the fire.

Const Curnew says fire investigators have to get a look at the scene and firefighters are still in the process of dealing with the last remnants of fire in the home's charred remains.

At least one person was inside the home when the fire started, but was able to get out safely. He has declined to comment at this time.

Meanwhile crowds of onlookers are stepping away from the scene, some having commented to The Telegram the scene was "intense" and "scary," with thick smoke and flames coming into view on the quiet street around 2:15 to 2:30 p.m. this afternoon.
