Businesses in and around St. John's warned of fraudulent cheques

The RNC’s economic crime unit is issuing an advisory to merchants in St. John’s and surrounding areas to be cautious when validating cheques.

The unit is currently investigating several incidents where cheques have been authorized by merchants for purchases, only to later receive information from financial institutions that the cheques were fraudulent.

The RNC is advising merchants to be vigilant when cashing cheques to ensure the authenticity.

The RNC is seeking the assistance of the general public.
