RNC reports busy 24 hours

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in the St. John's-metro region had a very busy 24 hours up to 4 a.m. this morning, responding to 249 calls for service.

The RNC and emergency response vehicles responded to St. John's International Airport Thursday around 3:50 p.m. for an emergency landing.

A U.S. Airways flight with mechanical problems was forced to divert to St. John's.

The RNC said the flight landed without incident. The plane left St. John's airport Thursday night.

Meanwhile, around 4:20 p.m. Thursday, police responded to a vehicle/motorcycle collision on Topsail Road in St. John's, near the intersection of Dunn’s Road.

A male driver of the bike was transported to hospital with undisclosed injuries, but not considered life threatening.

The collision is still under investigation.

Thursday night, around 6:55 p.m., patrol officers responded to a report of a disturbance on Froude Avenue in St. John's.

A man was found unconscious at scene and was conveyed to hospital.

The full extent of injuries is not known at this time. The investigation is ongoing and witnesses are encouraged to contact the RNC or Crimestoppers with any information.

Other calls to the police included a disturbance in the centre of St. John's and man charged with impaired driving in Mount Pearl.
