Men arrested with drugs headed to Salmon Festival

The RCMP stopped a vehicle for speeding on the Trans-Canada Highway near Birchy Lake.

The five men in the vehicle were subsequently arrested for possession, after the officer spotted marijuana in the lap of one of the men, according to the news release from the RCMP.

In addition to the marijuana, on search of the vehicle police found approximately 24 grams of cocaine and 192 Ecstasy pills, states the release.

All five men were from the Corner Brook area and told police they were on their way to the Salmon Festival in Grand Falls-Windsor.

"Four males are now facing drug related offences including possession of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled substance, as well as criminal charges for breaching a probation order and breaching a probation order and breaching a recognizance," according to the news release.

The men will appear in court in Corner Brook to answer to the charges on Sept. 17.

    "Public stupidity" should be charged. First, speeding while carrying a bunch of contraband. Then what kind of maroon would have MJ in his lap rather than concealing while slowing down for the pull over? How stunned can they be, my son?????
