A 54-year-old man from the St. Anthony area is facing numerous charges following what started out as an investigation by wildlife and fisheries officers into alleged illegal activities in the area, but ended up a criminal investigation Wednesday.
The man is charged with assaulting a peace officer, obstruction, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and four counts of possession of a controlled drug under the Controlled Drug and Substance Act.
The man is expected to appear in provincial court in Corner Brook today.
Further charges under the Fisheries Act are being pursued by the Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Division of the Provincial Department of Justice.
Fish and Wildlife officers, along with members from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, were involved in the investigation on Wednesday in the Roddickton area. They later requested assistance from the St. Anthony and Roddickton RCMP.
