One woman has been taken to hospital with what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries following a two-vehicle accident on the Outer Ring Road in the east-bound lane near the Manuels access road.

A car was struck from behind by a pickup truck, causing extensive damage to both vehicles.

One official at the scene said the accident appeared to be caused by a vehicle stopped in the merge lane.

East-bound traffic in the area is moving slowly. Paramedics and police are still on the scene.

Rear ending another vehicle means one thing in this instance. The pickup was going too fast to stop for the distance he was behind the car.

..I am never surprised at the depth of ignorance of many of the drivers I encounter in and around St. John 's ....today I witnessed two u-turns in the middle of water street ..one of which , in a blue pickup , almost backed intro the side of my car while completeing his u-turn from off the sidewalk.., requiring me to lean on the horn ....all the while recieiving middle finger from captain u-turn ....if you are out there captain u-turn ....please go and fork yourself ....you know who you are ...I hope some day the police find you before you kill somebody..

Not many people will be surprised to learn that it was likely caused by a vehicle stopping the merge lane, because NOBODY in this city seems to know how to properly use one. Drivers in this city are nuts, and have no concept of the rules of the road.

yes i agree, not surprised. please use the merge lane to accelerate and merge as soon as possible, don't drive to the end of the lane wondering why it's impossible to merge going 40... sheesh
