A woman who reportedly assaulted a man and robbed his groceries Tuesday night in the centre of the city has been freed from jail.

Angela May Walsh was released on an undertaking with conditions following a brief appearance in provincial court in St. John's today.

She's due back in court Aug. 19.

The 38-year-old is charged with robbery with violence, uttering threats and breach of probation.

She was arrested as a result of an incident that happened on Goodview Street, in the area of Mayor Avenue.

At around 9:30 p.m., an elderly man was walking home when he tripped and fell to the ground. Walsh was said to have asked the man if he needed help. He told her he did. However, instead, Walsh allegedly took his bag of groceries. When the man demanded she give it back, Walsh reportedly pushed him and ran away.

The man, who is not from this country and speaks broken English, called police, who arrested Walsh shortly after.
